Mentor Program

To become a CPA, graduate members must complete the eight CPA professional courses after passing the pre-requisite Accounting Competency Exam (check-point) and the Practical Work Experience Program (Mentor Program). The three year Mentor Program provides a framework for developing and demonstrating practical workplace skills at the professional level in the areas of accounting and/or finance under the supervision of CPA qualified mentors.

A well documented check-list of activities undertaken must be kept by the registered graduates under this program signed both by the candidate and the mentor on completion of a specific functional area of responsibility. Mentors willing to supervise graduates have to list with CPA PNG and the mentees will have to nominate listed mentors.

The employers of the mentees have to confirm in writing their employment in an accounting/finance position for the process to commence and factor this into their staff development plans so that the graduates can be rotated systematically to fully developed their capabilities. There are benefits perceived to be accruing to all parties concerned and this includes; the mentor sharing accumulated skills and knowledge with upcoming ones; the mentee acquiring skills and knowledge from experience professionals; and the employer realizing improved performance and multi-skilling its human capital who can handle multiple tasks at any time.

This program is a valuable personal learning experience that is designed to develop graduates into professional accountants and provide them with knowledge across many areas of accounting and finance.
